MAYNARD -- The rivalry on the ball field between Maynard and Barton continues this coming weekend with the second annual fans vs. fans softball game and gathering.
The event will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Maynard Community Park.
Teams of fans are set, and the public is welcome to join in the fun as spectators. Attendees are encouraged to bring a covered dish to share, and the event is BYOB. Food and beverages will not be for sale at this event -- there promises to be plenty of food.
There will be raffles, as well.
Both teams have been practicing and have enough players for the game. However, anyone expressing an interest in playing will not be turned away. The community is encouraged to attend to cheer on the teams.
Barton won last year's inaugural game and will be defending their title as champs. Barton will be "hosting" this year's game at the Maynard park.
Event "Win or Lose, We Booze" T-shirts will be available with team-specific shirts this year.
Dust has been blown off an old trophy donated by the Maynard Sportsman's Club, which has been re-purposed with a brand new plate to honor this year's winner. A donation will be made to the Barton Fire Department during this year's game.
Ed Gorza of Maynard and Joe Supanik of Barton took the lead in the collaborative effort to bring back the popular fan showdown for the second year in a row. The community is invited to come join in the fun for the second annual Maynard Fans vs. Barton Fans Softball Game -- "Win or Lose!"
