Brooke Hills Playhouse Presents ‘The Wizard of Oz’

WELLSBURG -- It's been a joyous theatrical season at Brooke Hills Playhouse, and that delight continues with "The Wizard of Oz," the children's play adapted by Claude Townley from L. Frank Baum's book, which became one of the most successful novels in American literature and the 1939 American musical fantasy film produced by MGM.

Veteran director Julia Barnhart from Wellsburg said performance dates will be this weekend and next weekend, July 26-28 and Aug. 2-4.

"I am excited to begin this wonderful journey with my talented cast of children who continue to inspire me with their ability to grasp what I ask so easily," she said. "Audiences don't want to miss this one."

The cast includes Chasity Stevey from Wellsburg as The Wizard of Oz, Royal Historian, and Guardian of Gates; Marleigh O'Brien from Weirton as Dorothy; Jim Showalter from Bellaire, as Uncle Henry; Sherri Hall from Wellsburg as Aunt Em; and Marley Stotler from Wellsburg as Witch of the North.

Also cast are Madison Mayfield from Colliers as Witch of the West; Kamryn Lloyd from Wellsburg as Scarecrow; Addison Colbert from Wellsburg as Tin Woodman; Sophia Morris from Follansbee as Cowardly Lion; Riley Kelly from Follansbee as King of the Winged Monkeys; and Sophia Wilkerson from Follansbee as Glinda, Witch of the South.

Munchkins, Ozites and Winged Monkeys include Sumeria Leonard from Wellsburg, Emma Morris from Follansbee, Harper Morris from Follansbee and Virginia Smart from Avella, Pa.

Ticket prices are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $10 for children. Season passes are available at $58 for adults, $50 for seniors and students, and $42 for children.

The final show of the season, "Rex's Exes," by Jones Hope Wooten, will be presented Aug. 16-18 and 23-25.
