What the heck has happened to this country in the last 40 or so years? Who is running this country and how is everyone that is elected in politics and those that contribute to those elected in our nation's capitol becoming so rich while getting a modest salary?
What is their secret?
Although I could probably delve into a dozen ways that politicians have made huge amounts of money, some without any investment at all, I'm just going to bring one way they do it to light. It's no secret that lawyers and law firms and law organizations have contributed millions and millions and millions and probably a few more millions to political campaigns over the last 40 years. According to bloomberglaw.com the amount given to democrats every year ranges from 80-95% of the total donated.
So what are the lawyers receiving for these donations? Maybe it's the laws that our government passes that make it super easy to sue large corporations and then just settle out of court for huge sums because it's cheaper for companies to settle than it is to go to court and fight.
We all know that's true, we've all known and even said to someone that you know that's what all these class action suits are being advertised so much on television.
Have you ever served at Camp Lejeune, have you ever used baby powder, have you ever been exposed to asbestos, have you , have you have you … it's everywhere.
I was recently a recipient in a major class action lawsuit that I didn't even know I was in. A lawsuit against Google for sharing user search queries to third-party companies. So they were letting many others know your searching habits and sites you went to and what you were looking for. There is no doubt that is just plain wrong, it's no ones business where you search and what you search for and what you're reading and looking at, it should be no one's business!
The settlement I received for my privacy invasion is $0.12, 12/100ths of a single dollar or in simpler term a check for 12 cents!
I looked up the particulars of the Google referrer header privacy settlement. Google settled with the attorneys for $23 million. Attorney fees were $5.7 million even though litigation costs were only $34,634.69. Other attorney fees of almost $800,000 plus settlement administration costs and notice fees and costs. Those plaintiffs that brought the case got $5,000.
The rest of the class claimants received an average of $7.70. The only thing i can think of that i can spend my 12 cents on will be the tax on something that i buy for $2.
What the heck has happened to the fairness in this country? How do these laws and regulations get passed and why? Just imagine how many times this happens each year to almost every company.
I heard someone say some years back that frivolous Wal-Mart lawsuits are settled about 33 times per day. I think this is how the swamp got started and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and in many different shapes and forms.
I wish we could find someone to elect that would at least try to drain the swamp. The swamp is a bottomless pit of corruption. I'm voting to drain the swamp like millions of others. We're tired of it!
I could go through dozens of other examples but for now i think one is enough. I gotta find something that I can buy for 2 dollars so I can spend this settlement check.
