The Ohio County Public Library is a valuable community asset that provides a multivariate array of programs, resources, and services to all local citizens.
Did you know that these advantages are potentially provided to every citizen in Ohio County from cradle to grave including:
– Preschool Children -- Mother Goose on the Loose, Toddler Tuesdays, Music and Movement, Fun Labs (STEAM), Preschool Story Time, and Saturday Story Time;
– School Children -- Visits to individual classrooms in local schools for in-person story times, facilitating school book clubs, field trips to the Library by local students and teachers, assisting with curricular research, summer reading programs, and providing resources and materials directly to classrooms;
– Young Adults -- Provision of graphic novels, video games, board games, and special events (Taylor Swift Night, Tortured Poets Workshop). Sponsorship of Graphic Novels Discussion Group;
– Adults -- Popular adult programing such as Lunch With Books and Peoples University. Special events such as the Summer Reading Challenge for Adults, the Wheeling Poetry Series, and Wheeling Reads: One Book, One Community.
Historical research/genealogical collections and local history exhibits hosted and sponsored by the Library.
Interlibrary loan resources (borrowing materials from other libraries). Innovative resources like the Library of Things (can borrow tools, telescopes, and other interesting hands-on items).
– Senior Citizens -- Outreach and home delivery services (delivery of materials to homes and assisted living facilities), large-print and audio book collections, and other resources of interest to older populations.
Nearly 36,000 individuals possess OCPL library cards, and many have taken advantage of the wide variety of offerings that are provided by a talented staff of library professionals, workers, and staff members.
However, it requires full and stable funding for the Ohio County Public Library to continue the accomplishment of its mission, goals, and objectives. Full support of the library requires voters in the May 14 Primary Election to vote for both the Ohio County Schools and Ohio County Public Library levies!
The Library funding is a carve-out from the Board of Education excess levy, so the school levy must be passed in addition to the library levy.
So, to support the OCPL's outstanding future work and provide full and stable funding, on May 14th please vote FOR THE LEVIES!
