Waterfront Fest All Day Saturday In Wheeling

WHEELING -- Waterfront Hall and The Pineroom Studios are joining together to present the first ever "North Atlantic Beer Mile" at Waterfront Fest on Saturday, May 4.

This all-day event will be taking place along Water Street with the beautiful Waterfront Hall serving as headquarters. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

OVDJ will be playing music at 11 a.m., followed by the local band Company Caravan playing on an outdoor stage at noon.

The Beer Mile will commence at 2 p.m., preceded by welcoming remarks from Wheeling Vice Mayor Chad Thalman, the colors presented by Wheeling American Legion Post 1 Color Guard, the National Anthem sung by CeeCee Litman, and the firing of the official Beer Mile Cannon to start the race.

The North Atlantic Beer Mile consists of a participant drinking a 10 oz. beer to begin the race and then drink another 10 oz. beer after quarter miles one, two and three. Participants can either run or walk. This can be done solo or with a group of four, with each participant sharing a quarter of the race. Awards will be presented to the top three in each category.

The cost of the race is $40 for an individual or $100 for a team of four. Each participant will receive a souvenir T-shirt and one drink ticket redeemable at Waterfront Hall.

For those wishing to attend the event but not participate in the competition, the cost is $10.

At the conclusion of the race, there will be a Kentucky Derby Watch Party inside Waterfront Hall, followed by The RoadHog Band at 7 p.m., Bucket of Puppies at 8:15 p.m., and The Tom Bachelor Band at 9:30 p.m. Kentucky Derby, Cinco de Mayo and Star Wars-themed costumes are encouraged.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Augusta Levy Learning Center, the Road Home Animal Project and the Helping Heroes Organization.
