On March 9, Local 2911 Steel Workers held a rally to protest the ruling of four members of the ITC committee that was to consider the impact on U.S. industry on the dumping of tin, and found it was not harmful. This was announced sometime in February 2024. As a result, the owner of Cleveland-Cliffs -- Lourenco Goncalves -- has decided to "indefinitely" idle the plant in April.
The dumping case was filed in January of 2023 called for dumping by eight countries. The Commerce Department concluded that four countries -- Canada, China, Germany and South Korea -- were unfairly pricing their products lower.
Of the many speakers there were two that stood out. The first was Kaleb Knowlton, Appalachian Regional Representative for Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio. In a statement from Brown, he read, "I will never stop fighting for the workers here in Weirton and across the river in Ohio. Communities like Steubenville and Weirton have been left behind over and over by trade policy written by corporations, at the expense of Ohio workers." I didn't realize that corporations wrote trade policy, so I looked it up. It is either the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committee. Brown is on The Finance Committee, of the three subcommittees, one is on International Trade, Customs and Global Competitiveness.
Second -- USW Local 2911 President Mark Glyptis says he hopes the government is watching their efforts. Looking up antidumping rulings.
The one who can reverse it is the president.
Sherrod Brown's constituents put their trust in him to look after their welfare and interest. The Union leadership is supposed to be the advocate for their union brothers and sisters.
Both are to be the eyes and ears for the people they represent. Both need to let the country know what is going on with "illegal dumping" putting pressure on Biden to veto the ITC ruling.
This is what these no goods have been doing for years, pretending to care and "… never stop fighting for the workers." Liars.
