WPHS’s Dailer Named State Principal Of Year

WHEELING -- Principals across West Virginia have selected Wheeling Park High School Principal Meredith Dailer as the best among them for the coming year.

Dailer was announced as the 2024 West Virginia Secondary Principal of the Year during the annual state Leaders of Education Conference earlier this week at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs.

The award signals recognition from both the West Virginia Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals and the West Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals.

Dailer has been in education for 17 years, and an administrator for nine years. She is in her fourth year as principal at WPHS.

She and her husband Jacob have two children - daughter Tessa, 11; and son Cal, 9.

Dailer believes the other principals noticed the excitement happening at WPHS.

"They saw the energy we put into Wheeling Park High School to make it a great place to work and learn," she said.

"It's very flattering to have peers acknowledge you when you do a good job. Most of that, though, has to do with the awesome kids and staff at Wheeling Park that make me look good."

And what is the best part of her job?

"It's that I get to see the kids enjoying the building and finding their path," Dailer noted.

The state principal of the year award will put her on the national stage with other state winners at a gathering where they will be honored in the fall of 2024, she said. In addition, she will be invited to participate in Advocacy Day in Washington in March.

"I'm super happy for her," Ohio County Schools Superintendent Kim Miller said. "It's quite an accomplishment, and I'm really proud of her."

She added she has submitted Dailer's name for many awards in the past.

"People around the state acknowledge her intelligence and her hard work," Miller said of Dailer.
