A new Marshall County Deputy Sheriff was appointed at Tuesday's County Commission meeting, the new deputy is Ryan Novick who formerly worked for the City of McMechen. He will assume his new duties on Monday. Chris Jacobs appeared before the Commission and gave a presentation on Haven Maternity. Jacobs stated that the facility will provide a home for pregnant women over the age of 18. The plan is to open early next year. The Commission was asked for assistance with the installation of a fire suppression system; however, this request was tabled. Also as part of the County Commission meeting, approval was given for the funding of two projects for PDS4. Both projects are funded with remaining ARPA funds. One of the projects in the Games Ridge Waterline extension with $174,720 for the material and PSD4 staff will provide the labor for the project. The second project is a Telemetry System Upgrade for $38.078. The County Commissioners also approved the renewal for the Marshall County Federal Credit Unions (MCFCU) Emergency Operation Plan. This agreement provides a space in the courthouse for the MCFCU to operate in the event of an emergency resulting in the inability to operate in its current location.
The City of Moundsville's Recycling Program has been expanded. City Manager Rick Healy announced at this past Tuesday's meeting. Plastic bags and plastic film have been added to the current drop-off program. Healy further defined this as items as grocery bags, newspaper sleeves, product plastic wrap, bubble wrap, shrink wrap, and items of a similar nature. Healey added, "Basically it is a 'squishable' plastic, and it can be dropped off with the regular recycling. Items that can be dropped off at the center now includes, mixed paper, glass, plastic bags, and plastic film. Healy Continued, "City Council and the administration are excited about this next step on the recycling program which began in early 2021.
A grant from the West Virginia DEP's REAP program funds this program, and the City was successful in obtaining another grant this year. Drop-off is accepted on Saturday Morning's form 8:00 a.m. to noon at the city's Sanitation facility located on Brown Street (old Kittle Hauling Property). In the first three quarters of 2023, over 58,000 pounds of paper and cardboard were recycled and kept out of the landfills. Students in third and fifth grades at Central Elementary School in Moundsville, had the opportunity to explore different career paths as they rotated among 40 different vocation booths. At each station students were able to ask questions and see demonstrations. A deputy sheriff, coal miner, disc jockey, TV news anchors, physical therapist, popsicle maker, and photographer along with many other professions. Students from John Marshall High School Career and Technical Education, simulated workplace classes and showed the elementary students what programs were offered.

The Acteens and Challengers (teens and girls) who meet at the Blue and Gold Christian Center in Cameron have been busy making crafts and plans to raise money for summer camp. On Saturday Dec 2, after the Christmas Parade, the teens will have refreshments for anyone who would like to stop in and get warm or purchase craft. The Acteens and Challengers are sponsored by the Cameron Baptist Church.
