FAIRVIEW -- The Pennyroyal Opera House will host a bluegrass show today, Friday, Sept. 22, featuring Appalachian Swing.
Appalachian Swing was formed in 2021, the result of a show performed by Adam Schlenker, Hayes Griffith, Todd Sams and George Welling. Schlenker and Griffith were hosting a monthly series of Americana concerts, each with a different theme and cast of musicians, at a club in Columbus.
One such show featured the music of the Kentucky Colonels, a short-lived but highly influential southern California bluegrass band led by brothers Roland and Clarence White.
That concert was so much fun and so musically rewarding that the guys decided to form a band and carry things forward.
Appalachian Swing has an instrumental front line that rivals any band in the country. The opening band for tonight's show will be Dennison University American Roots Ensemble.
The kitchen and doors open at 5 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person. Guests ages 12 and under are admitted for free.
The Pennyroyal Opera House consists of a 100-percent volunteer staff and is conveniently located in Fairview, Ohio, just off Interstate 70 at exit 198.
