WHEELING -- The man who earned his greatest fame on a television show about nothing is bringing something to Wheeling this November -- himself.
Jerry Seinfeld, a legend in standup comedy and creator with Larry David of the seminal sitcom "Seinfeld," will return to the Capitol Theatre to perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 17. Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Aug. 18.
Seinfeld has taken the Capitol Theatre stage several times in the past, said Kyle Knox, marketing manager for the Capitol Theatre and WesBanco Arena. The comedian's last trip to the Friendly City came in 2019.
"Jerry has been a regular at the Capitol since the Capitol Theatre reopened, and we're always glad to have him back," Knox said. "It's always a great show. He has a new show this time. And it's always a performance the Wheeling fans enjoy."
Seinfeld is best known for his eponymous television series, which ran for nine seasons and won three Golden Globe Awards, 10 Primetime Emmys and many other awards.
His brand of observational comedy made him enormously popular even before his sitcom aired. He currently hosts an acclaimed web series "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee."
Seinfeld has also starred in, written, and produced movies ("Comedian," "Bee Movie"), directed and produced a Broadway show ("Colin Quinn Long Story Short"), and wrote three best-selling books (Is this Anything?, Seinlanguage, and The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Book) and a children's book (Halloween). Seinfeld recently announced his upcoming film "Unfrosted" and continues to perform both nationally and internationally.
The return of one of the seminal comedians of the modern era to the Capitol Theatre is another feather in the cap of both the theatre and the city, Knox said.
"I think it says a lot about the historic nature of the Capitol," Knox said, "the integrity of what the venue offers and that these kinds of artists and comedians want to come back to the venue."
Construction crews around the Capitol Theatre have been kicking up dust recently. The Downtown Streetscape Project has made its way to the front of the venue, with heavy machinery tearing into the sidewalk. Yet Seinfeld fans need not worry about navigating orange cones around the front door. Knox said the construction around the Capitol Theatre is scheduled to be completed by Seinfield's performance.
Tickets will be available for purchase at CapitolTheatreWheeling.com, by phone at 304-233-7000 or at the WesBanco Arena box office.
