Wheeling’s ‘Wonder Women’

1 min read

Editor, News-Register:

March is Women's History Month, and we are blessed in Wheeling to have our very own "Wonder Women" -- those who enrich our city each day.

Two recently deceased, Bettie Steele and Trudy Forster, and fresh in memory. Bettie was a whirlwind and did so much for West Virginia Independence Hall, especially the flag exhibit. Trudy was a super nurse who once ran several departments at Wheeling Hospital and recently served as secretary to three Catholic parishes.

And we don't want to take our youngsters for granted. The newspaper insert "The Future of Progress" called out Betsy, B.J., and Olivia.

There are so many other great ladies all around us. Snookie, Rosemary, Rose, Jeanne, Michele, Susie, Kristine, Bekah, Hydie, Amy, Kathie, Lisa, Sister Martha, the Sisters of St. Joseph, Dr. Amy, Reverend Erica, Cheryl L., Chris., Edie, Mary, Sue, Linda, Debbie, Kayleen, and on and on. We all know their names.

The saying "there is no limit to the power of a good woman" surely rings true in our Ohio River town.
