MARTINS FERRY -- Unified Bank Customer Experience and Sales Executive Mallory Clegg has a full plate but wouldn't have it any other way.
Clegg, 36, has worked in banking for 15 years now, four and a half of those with Unified where she oversees all 18 of the bank's branches as well as its training program and retail sales efforts.
"One of the things I love most about my job is that I don't have a typical day. Some days I am traveling to different branches and meeting with my team and customers, several days a month I am teaching a class, others are spent handling things from my office," she said.
"Every day presents new opportunities and challenges."
As for her work ethic, Clegg believes that "everyone needs someone they can depend on, be that person."
"As for why, for one it is my job, for another my parents taught me this through example. Always do what you can to help someone through their journey," she added.
Clegg grew up in Jacobsburg. She said she wanted to stay in the Ohio Valley, an area she considers home. She graduated from Union Local High School before going to West Liberty University for her undergrad. She then completed her MBA at what is now Wheeling University.
"There is such a sense of community that makes me proud to both live and work here. I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else," she said.
She said she believes the bright spot in the area is the people.
"Throughout my career and community involvement I have had the privilege to meet some of the most hard working and dedicated people. There is a sense of community pride and a desire to give back that makes the Ohio Valley special," she said.
Clegg said banking is an essential field to the community.
"While banks will continue to evolve and offer more digital options, we will always have the priority of helping our customers achieve their financial goals and dreams," she said.
As for those making their way into the workforce, Clegg recommends investing in your own development.
"Take every training offered, read every manual, research your career field. Learn everything you can and be a sponge, it will make you stand out among the rest," she said.
She said something she has learned in her career is that everyone needs and deserves an occasional break.
"Take your vacation days and give yourself a chance to recharge your batteries," she added.
In addition to her job, Clegg is the chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army of Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler counties, something she has been a part of for a number of years. She is also a past president of the Ohio Valley Jaycees.
