Energy Diversification Necessary

West Virginia needs to attract the kinds of highly skilled jobs and industries that will create a truly sustainable, 21st century economy. That's why we must continue to invest in all forms of energy including fossil fuels, nuclear, and renewables. In addition, we need to develop sophisticated energy technologies such as energy storage.

Investing in renewable energy and new, clean energy technologies like energy storage will help create the kinds of jobs that West Virginia communities need right now while also supporting local businesses up and down the supply chain. When it comes down to it, an all-of-the above approach to energy is not a political issue, but an economic one.

Moreover, if we're going to invest in our energy infrastructure, it only makes sense to ensure that we are diversifying our energy portfolio along the way. That way we aren't putting all of our eggs into one basket but rather spreading them out to mitigate any economic risks. An all-of-the-above energy strategy is critical.

For a stronger economy, West Virginia lawmakers like Senators Shelly Moore Capito and Joe Manchin should continue to support commonsense energy policies that will support a more diverse energy mix back home and nationwide.
