Inflation may be forcing some of us to sacrifice the things we like to enjoy, and even more so, the things we regularly need. Health care is one of those necessities. That's why, in these times of financial uncertainty and instability, I feel additional gratitude for my Medicare Advantage health care plan, which has always stayed consistent.
I have never doubted that my Medicare Advantage plan would stay within my budget. The premiums have always been predictable, and this year the average premium is down an additional 10%, coming out to just $19 per month. With the additional cost assurance of a cap on out-of-pocket costs, medical bills are not something I have to be concerned about. I think it's safe to say that this is a rare thing for anyone to feel about their insurance.
Medicare Advantage is so successful because it is a public and private sector partnership based on private sector strategies. That means in the areas where government insurance lacks certain coverage benefits, Medicare Advantage steps in to provide those needed services. And the services and benefits provided by my coverage are extensive.
Coordinating care has been made simple. I don't find myself spending hours online or on the phone seeking answers to my questions or trying to reach a provider. The information I need is made readily available and easy to understand.
I never thought that my health care insurance would become such a focal point of my life, but with aging comes greater health needs, and I am glad to know that Medicare Advantage has me covered should I have an immediate or long-term health concern.
With my coverage, I have also been able to prioritize preventative care benefits meaning I'm staying healthier than ever. Through my plan, I pay a low price to attend gym classes that have helped me build healthier habits and get to meet members of my community I wouldn't otherwise know. It's these additional benefits that highlight how Medicare Advantage is far and away the best health care coverage available to seniors.
My hope is that Sens. Manchin and Capito, who have always shown a great understanding when it comes to pragmatic and sensible policy, will continue this trend by supporting Medicare Advantage. The program is a great example of how private insurers can pick up the slack where other programs might not be meeting patient needs. It is the role of representatives in Congress to ensure the longevity of this program.
