Hall Named WVU Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN -- After a pair of impressive performances last week, WVU sophomore and Oak Glen graduate Peyton Hall of the West Virginia University wrestling team was named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.

The Chester, West Virginia, native ranked in the top 20 of his 165-pound weight class. On Dec. 10, he pinned senior Hunter Jones of Glenville State in 2:13 for his third pin of the season. He took Jones down in the first minute of the match, hooked his arms, and went to work on flipping him over to capture the fall.

The sophomore continued with a 21-6 tech. fall over VMI's River Carroll on Dec. 12. The Chester, West Virginia, native took a commanding 8-1 lead into the second period after registering two takedowns and a four-point near fall in the first.

He tallied five more takedowns and a reversal to capture five points to extend the Mountaineer's lead to 23-0.

This Week in Wrestling: The Mountaineers are off this week … the squad returns on Monday, Dec. 20, for the team's first tri-meet of the season ... WVU plays host to Chattanooga and Cleveland State ... the meet is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Drousias dominated in the opening match at 125 as he recorded an 11-0 shutout and his first major decision of the season ... Boyd and Hornfeck earned back-to-back major decisions by a combined score of 27-5 to launch the Mountaineers toward an 18-0 advantage at the midway point of the meet ... to start the second half, No. 13/14 Hall delivered a 21-6 technical fall to put WVU up 23-0 ... Carman added a 13-1 decision at 184 pounds … Wolfgram pinned his opponent in 2:20 to push West Virginia to a 30-point victory ...
