From STAFF REPORTS
West Virginia standout Miles McBride took to Twitter on Friday to announce that he is declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft, with an option to return to school next year as reported by ESPN.
In the statement he wrote, "First off I would like to thank God because without him none of this would be possible. From the first time I picked up a basketball my dream has been to one day be in a position to play in the NBA. After conversations with my family and WVU coaching staff, I have decided that I will be declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft. Thank you to everyone that has helped me get to this point, I'm excited to go through this process."
The 6-foot-2 guard out of Cincinnati delivered a stellar sophomore campaign where he led the team in points (460), points per game (15.9), 3-point percentage (.414), made field goals (157), assists (140), steals (55) and minutes (990).
His best showing of the season came on Feb. 6 against Kansas, where he turned in a season-high 31 points, the most points scored by a Mountaineers player during the whole campaign.
In the March Madness Round of 32 loss to Syracuse, McBride gave coach Bob Huggins and his teammates everything he had, leading the team with 37 minutes, a team-leading seven assists and a remarkable defensive performance as he secured three steals.
He finished the game with 11 points.
He also turned in a monster first round game in a win over Morehead State where he accounted for 30 points, six rebounds and six assists.
The sophomore was named second team All-Big 12.
McBride is currently ranked No. 35 in ESPN's draft rankings and is projected to earn either a first round or an early second round pick if he does in fact decide to leave.
McBride joins teammates Sean McNeil and Taz Sherman as the three Mountaineers to declare for the 2021 NBA Draft.
