WVU’s Tykee Smith To Enter Transfer Portal

West Virginia safety Tykee Smith announced on Wednesday that he will be entering the NCAA transfer portal. Smith took the announcement to Twitter where it said, "Dear Mountaineer Family, I would like to thank the University of West Virginia for giving me the opportunity to play the sport that I love at a high level, I would also like to thank the staff, my teammates, fans, and most importantly the academic advisors for all of the love and support that I received during my time there. Lasty, I would like to thank my family and friends for being by my side every step of the way.
"Despite that, I would like to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal. However, West Virginia will also have a special place in my heart!! -Tykee Smith #23"
Smith collected 61 total tackles (33 solo) for the Mountaineers last season while also intercepting two passes.
He was named AP third team All-American and was a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist.
He collected nine total tackles and picked off a pass returning it 42 yards against TCU on Nov. 14. Smith also had eight tackles against Oklahoma State and Kansas.
During his freshman campaign, Smith tallied 50 total tackles (36 solo) and two interceptions with one going for a touchdown.
