More Than 150K Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 in West Virginia

There are now more than 150,000 West Virginians fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to the Department of Health and Human Resources website, 154,798 state residents have received the second shot to fully vaccinate them against the virus. Also, 258,451 people in the Mountain State have received their first dose of vaccine.

The COVID metrics on the DHHR's alert map continue to look better. The map spent yet another day without a county in the red, the map's highest-risk category. Just nine counties were orange, the second-highest-risk category. Ten counties were gold, 11 counties were yellow and 25 counties were green, the map's safest category.

Hancock was one of those green counties, while the other three in the Northern Panhandle -- Brooke, Ohio and Marshall -- all were yellow.

Hancock County had an infection rate of 8.43 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 2.60, while Brooke County had an infection rate of 14.98 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.60.

Ohio County had an infection rate of 15.87 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.75. Marshall County had an infection rate of 17.31 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.98.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported eight new positive COVID-19 cases in its Friday night update. That brought the county's totals to 3,725 cases and 65 related deaths since the pandemic began.
