Andrew Jackson Joins WVU Football Defensive Staff

MORGANTOWN -- Andrew Jackson will join the West Virginia football team's coaching staff as an assistant on the defensive side according to Mountaineer head coach Neal Brown.

The newly hired coach has much experience under his belt with much success.

Jackson spent this past season at Old Dominion as a defensive line coach and a recruiting coordinator. In 2019, he was the defensive tackles coach at James Madison University.

During that campaign, the Dukes led the FCS in total defense allowing only 270.2 yards per game. They were also ranked first in first down defense. James Madison were third in scoring defense allowing 15.7 points per game.

James Madison made it to the NCAA Division I Championship, but fell to North Dakota State.

The Dukes finished with a record of 14-2.

In 2018, Jackson was the defensive quality control coach at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs were ranked in the Top 10 nationally in eight defensive categories including leading the country in total defense. Mississippi State allowed an average of just over 263 yards per contest (263.1).

Before being hired by the Bulldogs, Jackson was also a member of the coaching staff at Fordham where he was the defensive line coach in 2017.

From 2015-16, Jackson was a graduated assistant with the defensive line for Penn State. In 2016, the Nittany Lions won the Big Ten Championship game and earned a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Jackson also spent two seasons as an assistant at Stony Brook (2013-14). He was first a graduate assistant. He then was a assistant defensive line coach.

He began his career at LIU post as a graduate assistant. Jackson was also a three-year captain and starter for LIU Post.
