Ohio County has seen a total of more than 2,500 positive COVID-19 cases, according to data released over the weekend by the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department.
The department reported 29 new cases Saturday night and 33 new cases Sunday night, putting the county's total at 2,553 positive cases. There also has been 37 COVID-related deaths in the county since the pandemic began.
Statewide, there have 80,710 positive cases and 1,254 deaths according to the Department of Health and Human Resources website.
The county's health department will hold free testing clinics Monday and Tuesday at three locations in Ohio County: Valley Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 355 Fire House Lane, Valley Grove; Warwood Fire Station, Station 9, 1301 Richland Ave.; and Wheeling Island Fire Station, Station 5, 11 North Wabash St.
Monday's clinics will last from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and Tuesday's clinics will last from 9-11 a.m.
The free clinics are for those with or without symptoms and no insurance is needed. Participants need to bring a driver’s license, photo ID or other proof of address. There are no residency restrictions, and patients under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The Northern Panhandle's four counties were among the 38 of West Virginia's 55 counties to sit in "red" on the DHHR COVID-19 daily alert map. There were only four counties in the entire state — Tucker, Randolph, Calhoun and Roane — that were not in either "red," the map's highest-risk category, or "orange," it's second-highest risk category.
Hancock County had an infection rate of 95.21 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 16.45. Brooke County had an infection rate of 85.30 cases per 100,000 and a percent positivity of 15.32.
Ohio County had an infection rate of 60.37 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 9.78. Marshall County had an infection rate of 43.52 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 9.95.
