WVU Well-Represented on All-Big 12 Team

MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University was well-represented as the 2020 All-Big 12 Football Awards were announced Thursday.

Tony Fields II received Defensive Newcomer of the Year while Darius Stills claimed Defensive Lineman of the Year honors. Both players were selected on First Team All-Big 12 on defense.

Fields led the conference in tackles with 88 total. He also tallied assisted tackles (54).

He has also collected a sack, three tackles for a loss, two pass breakups and an interception. He registered at least 10 tackles in five games this year including 15 against Kansas State and 14 vs. TCU.

Stills has put together another memorable season. The senior has issued 22 tackles along with 3.5 sacks and 7.5 TFL. He also intercepted a pass.

Leddie Brown was the final Mountaineer to secure on a spot on first team. He was the lone Mountaineer on the offense. Brown paced the Mountaineer offense this year as he had over 1,000 total yards.

He had a team-high 945 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He was also a threat as a receiver as he was second on the team in receptions hauling in 31 passes and found the end zone twice.

He opened the 2020 season against Eastern Kentucky with 123 yards on 10 attempts and two touchdowns. Arguably his best performance of the year was against Kansas where he had 195 yards on the ground on 18 attempts and scored one. He also had five receptions for 36 yards and a score.

On second team offense, wide receiver Winston Wright Jr. and offensive lineman Michael Brown were honored. Wright hauled in 33 passes for 387 yards and tallied a touchdown.

Defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor and defensive back Alonzo Addae were named to the second team defense.

Mesidor has registered 29 tackles for the Mountaineers along with five sacks while Addae has collected 61 tackles (33 solo, 28 assisted).

Chase Behrndt (OL), Zach Frazier (OL), Dreshun Miller (DB), Jeffery Pooler Jr. (DL), Tykee Smith (DB), Dante Stills (DL) and Brandon Yates (OL) all received Honorable Mention.

Iowa State dominated the top awards with winners being Breece Hall (Offensive Player of the Year), Mike Rose (Defensive Player of the Year), Xavier Hutchinson (Offensive Newcomer of the Year), Isheem Young (Defensive Co-Freshman of the Year) and Matt Campbell (Chuck Neinas Coach of the Year).

Kansas State's Deuce Vaughn was voted Offensive Freshman of the Year while TCU's Khari Coleman tallied Defensive Co-freshman of the Year honors. Special Teams Player of the Year went to Oklahoma State's Trestan Ebner and Offensive Lineman of the Year went to Oklahoma's Creed Humphrey.
