Brooke County turned red Monday on the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 county alert map, joining Marshall as the two Northern Panhandle counties experiencing “significant” risk of community spread.
In Brooke County, the seven-day COVID-19 average shows an infection rate of 101.58 cases per 100,000 residents over the past week, and a percent positivity of 8.11 percent.
Marshall County on Monday had 100.13 cases per 100,000 residents over the past week, and a percent positivity of 8.67.
All students in the Northern Panhandle are on remote learning this week, and will remain remote until at least Dec. 3 after Gov. Jim Justice closed schools to in-person learning for a week after Thanksgiving.
Hancock County remained ‘orange,’ which could impact the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission football playoff game this weekend for Oak Glen High School. If the county remains in orange on this coming Saturday’s COVID-19 school re-entry map, Oak Glen would be forced to forfeit its Class AA state semifinal game against Robert C. Byrd, set for Sunday.
