MORGANTOWN -- For the second straight week the Mountaineers will be taking on a Top 25 team and if it's anything like last week, West Virginia might find itself ranked by the end of the weekend.

WVU (4-2, 3-2 Big 12) knocked off No. 16 Kansas State 37-10 inside Milan Puskar Stadium and will travel to Austin to face No. 22 Texas (4-2, 3-2) on Saturday at noon.

"That was a big win for us Saturday over a quality Kansas State team," WVU coach Neal Brown said. "That's a team I have a lot of respect for.

"I also appreciate all the fans and everyone who came out to support us."

Jarret Doege shined at QB for the Mountaineers with 301 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 22 of 34 passing.

Bryce Ford-Wheaton was the top beneficiary of his talented QB as he racked up 104 yards on just three grabs.

The running game was solid, as well. Leddie Brown ran for 102 yards and a score on 24 carries, while Alec Sinkfield amassed 85 yards on 14 rushes.

"I thought we controlled the clock and we're very good on third down," Brown said. "We had several explosive plays in the running and passing game and then we established the running game and were able to run the clock in the second half."

A West Virginia defense that held the Wildcats to 225 total yards last week will have a new challenge this week going up against the elusive Texas QB Sam Ehlinger.

Ehlinger leads the team in passing with 1,650 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions and in rushing with 284 yards and seven scores.

"Offensively, they run a spread and are very up-tempo," Brown said of the Longhorns' offense. "They are one of the top offenses in the Big 12 and probably overall in the country.

"They are led by their quarterback Sam Ehlinger. He is a winner. I love to watch him play and I love to watch him compete. They take on his demeanor when they are playing well. He is their leader and he's a dual threat. I think he's even improved as a passer."

Joshua Moore is Ehlinger's top target this year with 343 yards and seven touchdowns.

Texas is coming off an overtime victory against a Top 5 team in Oklahoma State.

"Texas is an extremely talented team, maybe the most talented team in our league," Brown said. "They are coming off a huge win over Oklahoma State and they usually play their best football at home."
